Travel logistics

Travel passes: From the airport, you just need a ticket to Zurich HB. Tickets cover zones, not individual destinations, so if your accommodation is in Zurich (zone 110), you should be covered. Tickets cover all means of transport within a zone (eg buses, trams, trains, boats). The different locations of the school events are within walking distance, so if your accommodation is close by, you might not need a travel pass. If you need a travel pass, we recommend getting the 24h tickets. They are valid for 24h, not until the end of the day, so you can juggle it to cover evening-morning-evening travel, for example.

Internet: At the university, there is eduroam and a free guest network. Outside uni: many European carriers have exorbitant roaming rates for Switzerland, so check if this is the case with your mobile contract before leaving. It is possible to rent relatively cheap portable wifi devices, which you can pick up at the airport or train station. See for example: https://wifio.travel/

Swimming: If you like swimming, make sure to pack swimwear. The school dinner on Wednesday is by the river, and there is plenty of free time in the schedule to go swim in the river and lake. As always, you swim at your own responsibility, and please don’t die.

Accommodation: A couple of popular options with students of previous summer schools are the Youth Hostel and the Oldtown Hostel Otter. You can use the Discord server of the summer school to coordinate shared accommodation with other participants.
